US OPEN - RULES

INTERMEDIATE

The players will have 1 (one) minute to play the game in a "São Bento Grande Regional" rhythm.

All players will start and finish the game with a handshake!!

Remember that you are playing with another fellow "capoeirista", and not against him or her.

Remember that this is a non-contact tournament; the goal is to develop flow in your game, and show your technical skills that required for the division you are competing in. There is no "volta ao mundo" in this competition.

The judges are looking for:

  1. Game flow, continuity, creativity.
  2. Good, balanced ginga. Play with the rhythm. Ginga is what makes capoeira so unique and fun. Ginga is 80% of the game, CRAFT IT!!
  3. Control of movements, clean technique.
  4. Correct esquivas.
  5. Good recovery from attacks or surprising moves. Good responses.
  6. Rasteiras allowed in this division. There's no need to take your player down with a rasteira to score, as long as the timing is perfect, that is what counts. Remember that a "rasteira" is not a kick on your opponent's shin. Talk to your teacher/master about the proper way to do a "rasteira".
  7. Martelos and ganchos are allowed in this division but without the intent to contact. They should be applied with control, vision and technique and at the right time. They should be used more as tools to for taking the other player off balance. Breaking your opponents balance without contact is an art!!
  8. No bençãos, ponteiras, chapas, pisões, esporões, escala, galopante, etc.
  9. "Vingativas" are allowed but avoid grappling. You can enter and leave. If the other player defends it by blocking it both players should continue the game right away without interruption in order to keep the flow. The player should craft his/her game to create a situation where he/she can apply these techniques.

POINTS BREAK DOWN

Each game will have 2 scoring systems: One score for game volume, and one score for the individual. A game with a good flow, where both players will work hard and together to develop a good "dialog" will score high in the game score category. Lets say in this game "player A" showed more creativity, better escapes, and timely counters so he/she will score high individually.

Each player will carry both scores for the next game. Once again player A had a good game with player B and she scored 5, individually she scored 3, so for her next game she will come in with 8 points, and so on and so forth.

The top 8 scores will make to a 3 rd game that at this point will be in the semifinal phase. At the semifinal phase elimination will be applied, the best players, according to the judges, will move on to the finals.

Game Score: 1 - 5

Individual Score: 1 - 3
Rasteiras (1pt), Vingativas (1), Timely escape with a counter     attack (1)
