US OPEN - RULES
BEGINNERS The players will have 1 (one) minute to play the game in a "São Bento Grande de Angola" rhythm.
All players will start and finish the game with a handshake!!
Remember that you are playing with another fellow "capoeirista", and not against him or her.
Remember that this is a non-contact tournament; the goal is to develop flow in your game, and show your technical skills that required for the division you are competing in. There is no "volta ao mundo" in this competition.
The judges are looking for:
- Game flow, continuity. Try to connect with the other player to make the game happen and then your creativity and skills will prevail.
- A good and crafted "ginga". Play with the rhythm. Ginga is what makes capoeira so unique and fun.
- Apply good, and correct "esquivas", following the direction of the kicks. Remember that a wrong "Esquiva" it take points away from you and you can also get hurt.
- No grappling, or tangling.
- No stall, meaning: one player will "ginga" for a long time, not engaging in the game with responses waiting for an opportunity for a counter-attack.
- "Rasteiras de chão" are allowed in the division, but remember that technique prevails in this division. "Rasteira de Chão" is not a kick in the other player's leg, or calf.
- No "vingativas" in this division.
- Acrobatics have to be done in a way that they are connected with the game dialog. It is not a solo performance. We have solo division for this purpose.
- No "tesouras" of any kind.
- No contact!! Although certain kicks are hard to control, it is very important to keep in mind that control is essential. You can show/mark your counter without hurting your opponent. Be careful not to cross "meia-luas de compasso", look under when you are about to apply this technique.
POINTS BREAK DOWN
Each game will have 2 scoring systems: One score for game volume, and one score for the individual. A game with a good flow, where both players will work hard and together to develop a good "dialog" will score high in the game score category. Lets say in this game "player A" showed more creativity, better escapes, and timely counters so he/she will score high individually.
Each player will carry both scores for the next game. Once again player A had a good game with player B and she scored 5, individually she scored 3, so for her next game she will come in with 8 points, and so on and so forth.
The top 8 scores will make to a 3 rd game that at this point will be in the semifinal phase. At the semifinal phase elimination will be applied, the best players, according to the judges, will move on to the finals.
Game Score: 1 - 5
Individual Score: 1 - 2
Rasteiras (1pt)
*no need to take the other player down as long as the timing was perfect.
